How to Enjoy Your Year-End Festivities After Oral Surgery

How to Enjoy Your Year-End Festivities After Oral SurgeryThe last few weeks of the year are a time for enjoyment and recreation. You may be looking forward to going on a holiday trip, spending time with friends or family, or relaxing at home watching your favorite TV series and movies. But aside from recreation, you may use this time you are off work or studies to receive an oral surgery that you've waited for some time. Well, don't worry because oral surgery does not have to keep you off your enjoyment moments. There are tips you can use to celebrate and enjoy your December festivities while recovering from oral surgery.

Plan on Resting

For a day or two, you will need to rest once you come out of the surgery. If you received sedation, you may be feeling lethargic or groggy for the first 24 hours or so. You, therefore, need to forgo strenuous activities like playing games or going outdoors for long walks or hikes.

Plan your Diet

Stick to liquid foods for a day or two after the surgery. Depending on the kind of surgery you received, you may start consuming soft foods from the third or so day. You have to listen to the mouth and body and avoid forcing yourself to consume things that irritate the surgical site. You may be safe with soup, applesauce, baked yams, stuffing, meatloaf, and pumpkin pie without the crust. Avoid alcohol if you are on pain medications.

Don't Travel Immediately

Perhaps you had planned for a trip to your favorite holiday destination. You should wait for a couple of days after the surgery to take a flight or a long road tour. Traveling is stressful during the festive season, and you can imagine the experience if you are recovering from oral surgery. Having long hours in a plane, car, or at the airports robs you of the time to rest and ice your face. As a result, you may display swelling and discomfort in your face. Just take it slow and wait for the right moment when your body can withstand the nuisance of traveling while recovering from oral surgery.
